Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Backology training for?

As back and neck pain affects people of all ages, Backology training is generally applicable for people of all ages. The age range of our membership base includes teenagers through folks in their 70's and 80's. Since we are focused on strengthening muscle fibers, we only allow individuals who are post-puberty to be trained on our machines. Our Backology training protocol utilizes a personalized approach that is adapted for unique body mechanics, muscle strength levels and pain-free range of motion for each of our members.

How can I get started?

The easiest way to get started with Backology muscle training is to schedule an Introductory Training Session. This is a 45-minute appointment with one of our certified Backologists.. During this session, we will provide you with a tour of our training center, explain the training protocol and how it works, and offer the opportunity for you to be set up and to perform your very first back and neck training sessions. To schedule an appointment, please call us at 844-4-BACKOLOGY (844-422-2565) or visit our contact page for more options.

How long does training take?

Our Strength Training Program is a 9-week program with 2 visits each week (18 total sessions). Each time you visit to a Backology training center your workout will last only for about 120 seconds. Getting set up in the machine takes longer than your training. However, in only ~2 minutes you'll do some serious muscle building. Our appointments are scheduled for 20 minutes but in most cases, you'll complete training on both the back and neck machine in only about 10-15 minutes.

Is this a medical treatment?

Backology is a boutique fitness center that focuses only on the the training and strengthening of muscles. We do not provide any physical therapy, massage, chiropractic or other medical-related diagnoses or treatments.

Do you accept medical insurance?

As a fitness center, we do not accept any medical insurance for our training programs. However, when compared with the cost of other traditional treatment options including doctor visits, physical therapy, drugs and/or surgery, the out-of-pocket costs related to copays, coinsurance and deductibles are usually higher than a Backology training program investment. When requested, we do offer multiple payment options for our members.

Can I do the training at home?

No. This is what makes your deep, paraspinal muscles so unique. These muscles are involuntary and cannot be directly trained using normal gym equipment or body weight exercises. The reason for this is that our deep lumbar muscles are "protected" by our surface muscles. Our special training machines are designed to place you in a special position that eliminates the influence of your surface muscles and allows us to directly train, rebuild and restore the strength of the deep muscles that surround your spine.

How difficult is the workout?

You'll only do 2 minutes (~12 to 15 repetitions) each time on our machines and you can do your training session wearing your everyday clothes. No need for workout gear and for the majority of our training program, you won't even break a sweat. In fact, for the early phase of our Strength Training Program, the weights will feel very light and you'll wonder if the training is even doing anything. However, by the final strength building phase of our program, we do have some members that will generate a little bead of sweat as they work to complete the training repetitions.
